To Earthward
Thursday, December 13, 2012/ 1:09 PM
Love at the lips was touch
As sweet as I could bear; And once that seemed too much; I lived on air That crossed me from sweet things, I had the swirl and ache I craved strong sweets, but those Now no joy but lacks salt Of tears, the aftermark When stiff and sore and scarred The hurt is not enough: The flow of- was it musk From hidden grapevine springs Down hill at dusk? From sprays of honeysuckle That when they're gathered shake Dew on the knuckle. Seemed strong when I was young; The petal of the rose It was that stung. That is not dashed with pain And weariness and fault; I crave the stain Of almost too much love, The sweet of bitter bark And burning clove. I take away my hand From leaning on it hard In grass and sand, I long for weight and strength To feel the earth as rough To all my length. Labels: Poetry |

i carry your heart with me
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)i am never without it(anywhere i go you go, my dear;and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling) i fear no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true) and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart) Labels: Poetry |
The Sun Rising
Tuesday, December 27, 2011/ 5:46 PM
BUSY old fool, unruly Sun,
Why dost thou thus, Through windows, and through curtains, call on us ? Must to thy motions lovers' seasons run ? Saucy pedantic wretch, go chide Late school-boys and sour prentices, Go tell court-huntsmen that the king will ride, Call country ants to harvest offices ; Love, all alike, no season knows nor clime, Nor hours, days, months, which are the rags of time. Thy beams so reverend, and strong Why shouldst thou think ? I could eclipse and cloud them with a wink, But that I would not lose her sight so long. If her eyes have not blinded thine, Look, and to-morrow late tell me, Whether both th' Indias of spice and mine Be where thou left'st them, or lie here with me. Ask for those kings whom thou saw'st yesterday, And thou shalt hear, "All here in one bed lay." She's all states, and all princes I ; Nothing else is ; Princes do but play us ; compared to this, All honour's mimic, all wealth alchemy. Thou, Sun, art half as happy as we, In that the world's contracted thus ; Thine age asks ease, and since thy duties be To warm the world, that's done in warming us. Shine here to us, and thou art everywhere ; This bed thy center is, these walls thy sphere. - John Donne Labels: Poetry |
Granite and Wineglass
Sunday, November 20, 2011/ 5:34 AM
You are granite.
I am an empty wineglass. You know what happens when we touch! You laugh like the sun coming up laughs at a star that disappears into it. Love opens my chest, and thought returns to its confines. Patient and rational considerations leave. Only passion stays, whimpering and feverish. Some men fall down in the road like dregs thrown out. Then, totally reckless, the next morning they gallop out with new purposes. Love is the reality, and poetry is the drum that calls us to that. Don't keep complaining about loneliness! Let the fear-language of that theme crack open and float away. Let the priest come down from his tower, and not go back up! --The Essential Rumi Labels: Poetry |
The Wedding
Tuesday, January 25, 2011/ 7:12 PM
I am your heart
helpless romantic falling for you are a mirage; honey-drown in the coldness of your love yet I ice your broken bones with lucid frosting on our cake over - and over again as our heart beats of winter melodies playing when you were young and still alive. Labels: Poetry |
The Old Prison
Monday, May 31, 2010/ 10:08 PM
The rows of cells are unroofed,
a flute for the wind's mouth, who comes with a breath of ice from the blue caves of the south. O dark and fierce day: the wind like an angry bee hunts for the black honey in the pits of the hollow sea. Waves of shadow wash the empty shell bone-bare, and like a bone it sings a bitter song of air. Who built and laboured here? The wind and the sea say -Their cold nest is broken and they are blown away- They did not breed nor love, each in his cell alone cried as the wind now cries through this flute of stone. - Judith Wright Labels: Poetry |
Le Rêve d'un Curieux
Wednesday, February 10, 2010/ 5:06 PM
Circles
Wednesday, April 1, 2009/ 8:56 PM
Wrote this quite some time ago in a semi-conscious state of about 10 minutes, but here goes:
Heads turned ‘round, Words spill forward. Too fast, too fast - Too fast for comfort. Faces at the dawn We bask in the illusion of straight lines; Gliding slowly, gently Ahead, with our myopic vision. Hands etched with guilt, We deny the facts lying ahead; But be careful - Dodge, now, Before they hit us all! Legs racing, sprinting, We turn, we swerve, as we continue Speechless in our heavy Chains of logic. With our reddened eyes We say nothing, With our words, We say everything; As we continue Forgetting our purpose; Spinning, in endless Circles. Labels: Compositions, Poetry |
Delusion Angel

Daydream, delusion, limousine, eyelash
Oh baby with your pretty face Drop a tear in my wineglass Look at those big eyes See what you mean to me Sweet-cakes and milkshakes I'm a delusion angel I'm a fantasy parade I want you to know what I think Don't want you to guess anymore You have no idea where I came from We have no idea where we're going Latched in life Like branches in a river Flowing downstream Caught in the current I'll carry you You'll carry me That's how it could be Don't you know me? Don't you know me by now? - David Jewell Labels: Poetry |
